A native of Newark, New Jersey, Lisa Durden is a product of the Newark Public School System. Growing up in an urban community and witnessing the problems facing urban youth, inspired her to pursue a career that would be challenging, rewarding and that would enhance the quality of life for our youth. In pursuing this career goal, she focused on a major course of study in Broadcast Journalism at Seton Hall University and graduated with a Bachelors of Art Degree.
While at Seton Hall, her skills in communication and public speaking were sharpened by her position as newscaster and engineer at Seton Hall "WSOU" radio. Impressed with her academic background and communication skills, Kellogg Sales Company drafted her to join their sales and marketing team as a territory manager. Lisa also went on to a successful career as a sales executive at Pratt Pharmaceuticals, a division of Pfizer Incorporated, and an associate territory business manager at Bristol Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals.
Lisa Durden is now an established motivational speaker, keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, moderator, TV show host, and broadcast professional. She holds certifications in such areas as, motivational speaking, sales training, diversity training, EEO/AA training, and career consulting. Some of her topics include: Overcome Your Fears, Self-esteem Ain't Just a Dream, Out of the Box Thinking, Selling Your Uniqueness in Today's Corporate Environment, Workforce 2000, Managing Cultural Diversity, Managing the Difficult to Manage, Team Building, Communication Skills, Positive Assertiveness, Sales Techniques and Time Management.
Lisa's positive, energetic, and interactive style of speaking has touched major corporations, nonprofit organizations, professional organizations, colleges and universities, primary/secondary education, the public and private sector and more. Some of her major speaking accomplishments are, being trained by her mentor, famed motivational speaker, Les Brown, joining the speakers platform with New York's Governor George E. Pataki and Malcolm S. Forbes Jr., at We Love New York Day, where she was a keynote speaker. Lisa is also a featured expert in the book, Career Tool Kit: Skills for Success; by Carol Carter.
Her professional memberships include: The National Speakers Association and the National Association for Female Executives, where she has also served as a mentor for inner city girls.
Lisa is also the host and segment producer of Cablevision's News Magazine Show, "Neighborhood Journal," on Channel 3 and host and producer of "The Lisa Durden Show," a talk show on channel 26 at Newark's Cablevision. The focus of both shows is to cover stories that matter to Newark, NJ residents.
